In October 2022, I published my first book, entitled On Your Side Today: How to Know God is Truly Good. It’s a fairly short read, with 122 total pages and about 22,000 words of main content. A typical reader could finish it by reading a half-hour or so every night for a week.
But the process of writing On Your Side Today was long. My first recorded note on the book’s concept was in early 2008. It took me fourteen years before I was ready to send the finished manuscript to a professional editor. After the book was published, some people asked me when I was going to write my next book. I would smile and shrug my shoulders. Honestly, I wondered if I would ever be able to finish another one.
However, at the beginning of 2022, I began writing a new devotional series for my blog. The series is called The Truly Good Book, and it’s based on a chart in the back of On Your Side Today. The devotions in the series follow the main story of the Bible, showing how all of Scripture points to the good news of Jesus Christ. I recently completed 52 devotions on the Old Testament.
Each of those Old Testament devotions are about 800-1200 words in length, so their total word count must be at least 50,000 words. I could revise and polish those devotions, adding some reflective questions and maybe a prayer for each one. It would take some time, but in the end I’d have a 200-page devotional book that would take the reader on a Christ-centered journey through the Old Testament.
Could this be my next book? Maybe. I’d enjoy hearing what you think! In the meantime, check out The Truly Good Book series to see examples of what this book might contain.
As always, I’m thankful for your prayers, support, and encouragement! I should be able to resume posts on The Truly Good Book series next weekend. If you’re not already subscribed to the blog, you can subscribe via email below, or follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or WordPress.
